Overview

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and assist in managing a team of people dedicated to the production of a profitable reinsurance portfolio. Review risks written by other underwriters within the relevant team and comment as necessary in regard to the rating, the suitability to the account and the exposure level. Profitability will be continuously measured using both proprietary and external pricing tools. Look for ways to enhance these pricing tools through own market knowledge and realizing future development trends.
  • Underwriting new and existing business in accordance with current guidelines and within individual underwriting authority limits.
  • Supporting cross-selling opportunities, working in projects and collaborating closely with other lines of business and regions.
  • Ensure Validus Group exposures are controlled and remain within in-house parameters. This control may be extended to other offices/branches as necessary and is achieved by the frequent use of in house aggregate exposure management tools; ensuring all risks (including endorsements, quotes, promised lines and the like) are recorded in accordance with procedures.
  • Work with the EVP to create and execute comprehensive business development and marketing strategies, working both individually and within a team. These strategies are to be developed in coordination with both internal teams within the company and external business partners across Europe.

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Experience required:

  • A demonstrably successful underwriting track record
  • Extensive experience in the reinsurance industry as evidenced by a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent communication, presentation and team leadership skills. Must demonstrate the ability to share knowledge with other team members and assist in their development
  • Leadership and management competencies, with the ability to influence both direct reports
  • Extensive knowledge of global insurance and reinsurance markets. Must be aware of regional differences in contract coverage’s and reinsured perils
  • Possession of close relationships with reinsurance brokers and buyers around the world
