Our client is looking a Syndicate Reserving Manager to join their London based office on a Contract basis.

Overview

Key Duties:

Lead the quarterly reserving process:

  • Overseen by the chief actuary take responsibility for data needed for reserving, analysis, calculation and reporting of reserves to be held for each syndicate
  • Responsibility for being main contact point for external actuaries to provide SAO & tax opinion
  • Responsibility for ensuring compliance with actuarial standards and market practice
  • Compliance with Sarbannes-Oxley Control Framework including ensuring evidence of controls is maintained
  • Assist in the process for the calculation and / or review of the technical provisions

Reserve uncertainty:

  • Assist with the in assessment of reserve uncertainty, in particular the modelling and parameterisation of reserve risk within the Syndicate capital model

Business Planning:

  • Play full part in actuarial team’s responsibility for reviewing business plans, utilising reserving knowledge wherever possible to be able to advise underwriting teams of anticipated levels of future profitability

Ad-hoc actuarial projects:

  • Development of rating indices for pricing
  • Risk modelling and capital requirements
  • Modelling of individual risks where required
  • Providing assistance to Finance team during reporting season

Other Duties:

  • Responsibility for leading the reserving process for both syndicates

  • Able to take responsibility for own competence and address requirements in a timely manner

  • Analytical skills

Qualifications required:

  • FIA or equivalent

Experience required:

  • Developing a knowledge, appropriate to the role, of insurance, reinsurance and the business written by the syndicates
  • IT skills (Word, Excel and other software packages used within the business). An understanding, competence and interest in spreadsheet and finance based packages
  • Graduate with at least five years’ actuarial work experience in General Insurance
