Overview

Key Duties:

Pricing and Modelling:

  • Produce quotations for reinsurance transactions. Over time, the successful candidate will gain exposure to longevity, asset intensive and financial reinsurance opportunities
  • Perform pricing work within deadlines and to the necessary standards
  • Provide documentation for each quote summarising the pricing assumptions, results and financial projections
  • Participate in the ongoing development of pricing methods and procedures including contributing to the development of Actuarial systems
  • Develop an understanding of clients’ products and objectives
  • Contribute to winning business in a format that is profitable to the firm, which can be administered by the firm and does not cause foreseeable difficulties for the firm
  • Assist in special projects and research and development as required

Technical:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the firm’s pricing standards and philosophy
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through attending workshops and making good progress with the actuarial exams
  • Develop a solid understanding of pricing techniques across various reinsurance solutions
  • Gain an in-depth knowledge of UK and other European reinsurance practices
  • Develop knowledge of the firm’s treaty practices as they pertain to the management and handling of business won
  • Assist risk management personnel with monitoring experience of in-force treaties

Communication:

  • Ensure the Pricing Director is kept informed of progress and issues that have to be resolved
  • Collaborate with other members of the pricing team on quotations and research projects
  • Work closely with other departments throughout the firm’s internationally, especially the Operations and Finance teams
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives within the team

Qualifications required:

  • Degree in maths, finance, statistics, actuarial science or related field
  • Strong progress in the actuarial exams, having completed the CT actuarial exams
  • An intention to pursue an actuarial career and qualify as an actuary

Experience required:

  • Experience in reinsurance, an actuarial consultancy or life insurance
  • Experience in developing financial models using Excel and Actuarial modelling systems
  • Strong IT skills with a good understanding of MS Office, some VBA experience is desired
  • Ability to challenge and enhance existing analytical methodologies
  • Knowledge of product design, pricing, ALM or risk management (preferred)
  • Knowledge of UK, European and US reserving, accounting methodologies, and reinsurance structures (preferred)
