Consultant – Capital Expert with Regulatory Experience


Our client is looking to hire a Consultant in Capital Expert with Regulatory Experience to join their London based office.

Key Duties:

  • Lead capital modelling, validation and risk management engagements, working with the partner and the team
  • Provide authoritative advice to clients on how to anticipate and address key areas of regulatory challenge
  • Proactively develop the firm’s thought leadership in capital, risk and regulatory matters by generating new ideas, writing articles or blogs, presenting at conferences and participating in relevant industry working parties
  • Develop (or maintain) a high personal profile in the insurance market as an acknowledged expert in capital, risk and regulatory matters
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients on a day-to-day basis
  • Draft high-quality communications to clients (formal reports, presentation slides, day-to-day communications)
  • Present confidently in client meetings and deal well with clients on the phone and face-to-face
  • Plan and manage projects effectively, drive work forward and proactively engage with the partner and the team to deliver good quality advice on time and within agreed budgets
  • Play a key role in tenders and pitches for new business, in particular helping to deliver a regulatory perspective
  • Work within the firm’s internal professional standards and external professional guidance
  • Develop relationships with clients, identifying and meeting their needs and taking ownership of the client relationship
  • Attend conferences and network effectively with clients and prospects, building stronger relationships and increasing contacts
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the insurance market and particularly regulatory developments
  • Provide technical training to colleagues from time to time

  • Explain technical matters clearly and simply, including to non-experts
  • Identify and focus on the most important issues and to avoid excessive effort on immaterial issues or on spurious accuracy
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness (e.g. what would a client reasonably pay for a particular piece of work)
  • See things from the client’s, or colleague’s, perspective and adapt your approach accordingly
  • Be proactive with clients and colleagues, driving work forward and contributing new ideas
  • Delegate tasks effectively
  • Manage and mentor junior colleagues effectively
  • Anticipate workflow and manage the expectations of the client and the team
  • Work to tight deadlines when required
  • Prioritise work and re-assess these priorities when circumstances change
  • Run multiple projects concurrently

Qualifications required:

  • IFoA qualified actuary or equivalent

Experience required:

  • At least five years’ experience in the UK general insurance market
  • High degree of technical proficiency in capital modelling and capital model validation and the ability to develop strong proficiency in other areas
  • At least one year’s experience working at an insurance regulator on internal model approvals and related matters
