Catastrophe Analytics Lead – UK


Our client is looking to hire a Catastrophe Analytics Lead in London on a Permanent basis.

Key Roles:

  • Resource coordination of a team of catastrophe analysts and oversight for strategic direction
  • Interpretation of modelled loss estimates and effective communication of results to stake holders (i.e. brokers/actuaries/clients/reinsurers)
  • To quantify the catastrophe risk to firms UK/global client portfolios using vendor catastrophe models and the firms proprietary models/tools
  • To data audit the client portfolio and assess the completeness and accuracy of the data for catastrophe modelling purposes
  • To work closely with all stake holders on all aspects of the reinsurance placement process
  • Any other duties commensurate with position or level of responsibility
  • The role includes some line management duties, candidates should be able to demonstrate previous project coordination or management experience

  • Strong Problem Solving skills and keen attention to detail
  • Excellent IT skills, ideally with computer programming skills (e.g. VBA, R, python)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to present modelled output to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to process and understand data quickly and creatively, with a strong attention to detail

Qualifications required:

  • Degree in numerate or hazard related subject, ideally Applied Maths, Statistics or Engineering, Computer Science or relevant scientific subject such as Physics, Seismology, Atmospheric Science, Geo-Sciences

Experience required:

  • A track record in London/global insurance markets
  • Should be an experienced user of at least one vendor catastrophe model, ideally both RMS and AIR
  • A strong understanding of (re)insurance financial terms and an understanding of financial modelling software
  • Some understanding of the statistical methodologies underlying catastrophe models
  • Ability to integrate into a time critical business environment and meet challenging time lines
  • Exceptional problem solving skills
  • Ability to understand business and regulatory context of modelling process (e.g. Solvency II, Lloyd’s RDS)
  • Ability to understand UK-specific market wide insurance vehicles and the impact on their clients (e.g. Flood Re, Pool Re
