Actuarial Director – Benelux


Our client is looking to hire an Actuarial Director to join them in their Benelux region on a Permanent basis.

Key Duties:

  • Develop the actuarial function to meet the business needs, including development and continuous enhancement of the actuarial processes and controls
  • Support Group strategic activity including actuarial due diligence of potential transactions in the Benelux
  • Lead on the delivery of the quarterly GAAP and Solvency II reporting for the Benelux region
  • Lead on the production of the local actuarial information supporting the Group management information pack
  • Lead on the production of the year end actuarial reports and other regulatory submissions e.g. the Solvency Financial Condition Report, Quantitative Reporting Templates and the Financial Statements
  • Lead on the production of the Benelux Own Risk Self-Assessment projections
  • Lead on the assumption setting process and production of reports for the local Board’s and Group Chief Actuary
  • Contribute to the effective risk management of the actuarial function
  • Main actuarial contact for engagement with external stakeholders including all Benelux regulators and other third parties as necessary

  • Effective communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with experience presenting to the Board
  • Exhibits self-motivation, drive and is pro-active. Takes initiative without the need for approval
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across a range of stakeholders within the Group and external stakeholders e.g. regulators
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of actuarial modelling software would be an advantage
  • Role will be based in the Benelux area, preferably the Hague or Brussels, with travel expected to other local entities in Europe
  • Proficient language skills essential; English plus Dutch or French

Qualifications required:

  • Qualified Actuary (FIA or equivalent) with 10 years post qualified experience

Experience required:

  • A proven track record for delivering actuarial reporting and processes
  • Strong product knowledge of European guaranteed savings/pension products and unit linked business
  • Strong technical knowledge of Solvency II essential and knowledge of Bermudian EBS capital regime would be an advantage
  • Working knowledge of Benelux GAAP or IFRS accounting
  • Experience with reinsurance programmes
