We understand that 2020 wasn’t the best but something that we have learnt about ourselves over the year is that we strive on giving back to the local community, we enjoy helping others and we celebrate people. If we used one word to describe how we overcame the year, it’s ‘confelicity’. An old English word that means finding joy in the happiness of others.
Reflecting back, it seems that we had a good year despite the challenges and new adaptions.
A popular event during November where all participants grow a moustache to raise money for Movember, which a cause close to Matthew Waterworth’s heart. In memory of his late father, Matthew successfully raised over £400 this year making it his biggest fundraising achievement yet.
“I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated to my Movember effort this year. In total, I’ve managed to raise over £400 which is far beyond anything I had imagined was possible. My moustache was awful, truly horrific and I’m glad it’s going, to be honest… but all for a good cause and your donations are going towards:
- Male cancer treatments, scientific research and education on prevention.
- Male suicide awareness and support. 75% of suicides are men and it’s the most common cause of death in men under 35 in the UK.
So, thanks to everyone who donated… now to go and shave!” – Matt, 1st December

NHS Charities Together | Devonport Services Head Shave
During the lockdown, millions of people thanked the NHS workers for their hard work and dedication (we still do, everyday). Ross Watts, one of our Business Managers, took part in Devonport Services RFC Head Shave where for every £10 raised, a club member must shave their head in aid of NHS Charities Together. Ross was fortunately picked shave his long locks after the club successfully managed to raise over £32,000 across the South West and beyond.
Luckily, the lockdown meant that our barnett’s were the least of our worries. Well done Ross, what an achievement!
